Networking within business is important, especially in today's financial climate. If a client or potential client invites you to an event where you have the chance to network and meet other potential clients, I believe it is important to make the effort to attend. You may come away with no extra work. You may come away having handed out loads of business cards. Either way, it's a great way to be seen as part of your industry.
I attended the Supermodel Agency Annual Party this week at Funky Buddha in London. It gave me chance to meet and speak to a lot of people face to face that I otherwise wouldn't have met unless on the same job. The venue was filled with models, photographers, make up artists etc, plus the odd celebrity or two. Everyone had a great night, and many partied well into the morning.
You never know where your next client will come from, but you're more likely to gain new business from attending these events than by sitting next to the phone in the studio. So get out there and network!
